Description
Conceptual Foundations of Accounting and Finance provides a conceptual framework for
the study and teaching of accounting and finance through a critical review and
analysis of historical and current research.
Course
Description
Conceptual Foundations of Accounting and Finance is intended to promote understanding of
contemporary accounting and finance issues.
The understanding will be achieved via a conceptual framework intended
to meet the following learning objectives:

To establish an in-depth understanding of the principles of
accounting and finance essential for college instruction in business.
· To introduce students to several seminal works in accounting and finance theory.
· To use secondary literature review as a tool to address a hypothesis, examine its merit, and offer a professional critique.
· To apply historical and current literature in the field to challenges experienced by accounting and financial practitioners.
· To be adept at researching a company's financial statements, press releases, and news reports.
· To improve teaching skills: (1) analytical thinking skills; (2) problem-solving skills; (3) oral and written communication skills; and (4) team-working skills.

Grade assessment will be based on how well the student fulfills the stated learning objectives in the successful completion of the component assignments

Grades
will be based on the level of success in four component areas:
Teaching Topic Presentation –
(25%)
Each student will present assigned topics to a peer
group. Look at
Teaching Article Review –
(25%)
Each student will summarize, present, and lead discussion. Look at Reading List , Article Preparation, and Course Schedule.
Comprehensive Exam – (50%)
Part I: In-class assignments to be completed individually or with groups. (30% of CE)
Part II: Take-home assignments to be completed individually (70% of CE)
Look at
Collection of articles should begin in early April. The effort to locate and collect articles may be shared amongst students, but each student should have their own copy for class. Specific directions, article and topic assignments, and class schedule are within the Syllabus.
