Description:

This senior capstone course is designed to encourage students to seriously consider their individual responsibilities to the organization and to society.  = The Christian call to be “salt and light” is explored in an organizational context.  The c= ourse also provides students the opportunity for personal reflection and assessme= nt, to develop increased self-awareness. =   Prerequisite:  Senior standing and Writing Intensive (WI)

 

Objecti= ves:

Upon co= mpletion of this course students will be able to:

§         Evaluate individual value systems in relationship to ethical decision-making.

§         Consider spiritual and religious beliefs as they relate to business ethics.

  • <= span style=3D'color:windowtext'>Demonstrate an understanding of the complex= ity of ethics in the market, contrasting corporate interests with individual ones.
  • Unders= tand what it means to have “business as a calling” and personal consideration of how this notion relates to the life of the new busine= ss professional.

Student Expectations:

 

  1. come to class on time and be prepared for discussion.  The ability to share position= s, ask questions, and make observations as part of the conversation in class = is imperative.  Students must demonstrate that they are fully engaged in the discussion by being present, prepared and active.
  2.   Grades will be negatively impacted if the student does not regularly participate in the class conversation.  Comments should demonstrate preparation and thoughtful consideration of the topics.  The student should also show = that they are willing to ask questions, take positions and respectfully challenge the thoughts of others.
  3.   The student will complete a 4-5-page reflection paper (plus attached Self-Awareness Profile & Personal Growth Plan) based on t= heir work related to the Metamorphosis workbook.  More details will be provided= in class.  This is a writing intensive assignment.  The instructor will share feedback on the writing and the student will complete at least one rewrite of each section, until the final paper is completed.  (The paper sh= ould be typewritten, double-spaced with 12 pt. font). 
  4.   The studen= t will complete a 2-3 page analysis and critique of the positions articulated= in the text Creating a Culture of Excellence.  (The paper should be typewrit= ten, double-spaced with 12 pt. font).
  5.   Each stud= ent will be part of an Ethics Committee of 4-5 members.  The Committee will participat= e in group assignments, an will lead a class devotion or present an article overview or exercise related to class topic.

 

NOTICE:  Students having special problems t= hat might affect their performance in class should notify the instructor during= the first week of school.  Possible arrangements can be made to work closely with the Learning Center, a tutor, or special time provided by the instructor.
