COURSE OBJECTIVE
This course provides a year-long supervised experience focusing on the identification and application of “best teaching/learning practices” in your discipline.
At the conclusion of the course, you will be able to:
1. Articulate how you integrate your faith and Christian worldview into your teaching
philosophy.
2. Evaluate how successfully you were able to integrate at least 3 “best practice” teaching
methods and or assessment techniques introduced in BSNS 7090 into your course.
3. Revise appropriate syllabi such that course objectives are clearly articulated, means of
evaluation are clearly understood, and all other pertinent course details are
communicated to the student who is enrolled in the course.
Additionally, from active participation in your peer student presentations you should develop an appreciation of their teaching methods and contemplate methods for assimilating some of those methods into your own teaching practices.
GRADE DETERMINATION
Your grade will be determined with equal weighting to the following three categories:
Teaching Philosophy:
Write your teaching philosophy outlining your teaching methods, assessment techniques
and describe how you integrate your faith and Christian worldview into your teaching.
This assignment is due in May 1, 2007; however, feel free to send drafts for me to proof
read prior to the due date.
Syllabus Paper:
Turn in a copy of the syllabus that you brought with you at the beginning of BSNS 7090
and a copy of the syllabus that you plan to use in the fall of 2007. Write a paper that
compares the two making special notice of any changes that resulted from completing
BSNS 7090 and this practicum. This assignment is due in May1, 2007; however, feel free
to send drafts for me to proof read prior to the due date.
“Best Practices” Presentation and Assessment:
Create a 15-minute presentation that describes your successes and your failures in
attempting to integrate at least 3 things from the BSNS 7090 course. You are expected to
be present for your peers presentations and provide feedback. The purpose of the
presentation and assessment is to learn what your peers are doing and what works. This
presentation will take place between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm on Monday, January 1, 2007.
BEFORE CLASS PREPERATION
Revise the syllabus that you turned in at the start of BSNS 7090 for use in the fall 2006 semester.
