Course Description:

This is a continuation of BSNS 7090. As such, it is intended as an applied course of instruction, synthesizing and putting into practice in the DBA student’s own classroom the theories, strategies, tactics, and research learned in BSNS 7090.  It will culminate in the specific artifacts detailed in the Course Evaluation section.

 

Course Objectives:

·        To apply the learning from BSNS 7090 in a real-life classroom setting

·        To learn how to design a course

·        To discover the benefits of a structured course design and implementation

·        To enhance the DBA student’s undergraduate students’ learning experiences

·        To enhance the DBA student’s teaching experience

·        To produce a research paper that meets the standards of publication in a  scholarly, peer-reviewed journal

 

Course Evaluation: 

A total of 300 points are possible, and grades will be assigned as:

 

93-100 points = A           83-92 points = B              73-82 points = C              63-72 points = D

 

Course Evaluation Assignment Descriptions:

 

100 points    Course syllabus for a course the student will be teaching in the 2007- 2008 academic year, including, but not limited to the following elements:

·        Teacher information

·        Class information

·        Required and elective readings (using APA manual citation style)

·        Course description

·        Course objectives

·        Evaluation points and scale (exams, homework, etc.)

·        Evaluation rubric (e.g., “A = …., B = ….,” etc.)

·        Assignment Schedule

 

100 points    Classroom assessments:

§        Students execute at least two assessments from the Angelo and Cross handbook in one or two classes

§        Assessments must match class objectives

§        Write a report on each assessment to include a brief description of each assessment, the rationale for using the assessment, the assessment procedure, and the assessment results.  (Raw data need NOT be turned in, but a summary (can be statistical) of results should be turned in)

 

100 points    Written research paper on a teaching/learning topic: 

§        Scholarly, publishable paper in APA style

§        Literature review

§        Based on a learning or learning styles theory

§        Propose a methodology to include

·        A model

·        A research question

·        Testable hypotheses

·        Data gathering and analysis methods

§        Methodology may be quantitative or qualitative.

§        Bibliography is required in APA style

§        Number of pages does not equate with quality—it is possible that a six-page paper may be excellent, and a 30-page paper may be poor.

§        Typed, double-spaced, 12-point font, Microsoft Word format.
